Etta Chan

Is an Artist based in Hong Kong

Hong Kong actress/artist/craftsman/art teacher/poet, Chan Hoi-ya graduated from the Art Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In March 2013, she published the picture book "Disorder in Cambridge." In 2016, she released another picture book titled "We Are Not Ostriches." Recently, she has been passionate about writing, creating new poetry, essays, and short stories, with works published in Sound Rhythm Poetry Magazine and Big Radish Literary Monthly. She believes that art is anything that provokes thought.

Etta loves the name "Chan Hoi-Ngar" that her mother gave her and cherishes the artistic preferences that her sewing mother passed down to her. She thought she would become a fashion designer, but without much thought, she enrolled in the Art Department at CUHK. During her studies, she did not focus on her creative work and poured all her creative energy into drama, often being careless with her undergraduate assignments, although she performed well in art history.

After graduating, she once believed that she was not capable of drawing. In 2009, amidst a boring job, she started drawing rabbits as the protagonist of her visual diary, and since then, she has not stopped creating.
